The PGA Tour heads to Texas for the Valero Texas Open and the first thing we notice is that the big three won’t be playing. This has opened up the the market considerably. Jimmy Walker is the favourite at 16/1. The key reason why Walker is the favourite is that he is the defending champion and yet his form is nothing too exceptional at the moment. Branden Grace is hot on his heels following his victory at the RBC Heritage although back to back wins are pretty rare although, not impossible. It gives you plenty of food for thought in this wide open event.
The best value comes a little down the pecking order when it comes to form, so without further ado, here is the best value for this one.
J.B Holmes 25/1 (Ladbrokes)
Pulled out of the Shell Houston Open to focus on the Masters. A move that seemed to have worked as he finished in T-4th. He can also boast five top 11 finishes in his last seven tournaments. Not a shabby record here either. He’s on form, so expect him to do well at these great odds.
Bryson DeChambeau 28/1 (BetVictor)
Golf’s Scientist had plenty going on last week. First outing as a professional, new deal with CobraPuma and plenty of hype. He lived up the hype finishing in T-4th and was in the payout zone at 66/1. His odds have been slashed for this one for good reason. Expect DeChambeau to finish where he left off.
Charley Hoffman 30/1 (888)
Hoffman has played in every event here at San Antonio. The event name may change but Hoffman’s form here hasn’t. He has never finished worse than T-13th. He loves it here. He has also seen an upturn in form including three top 25s and finished in T-14th at the RBC Heritage. One to watch.
Luke Donald 40/1 (Ladbrokes)
Ok, he was unable to convert his overnight lead into victory at the RBC Heritage but Donald is up there once again challenging. His record here may not be the best but his confidence will be strong going into this one. 40/1 is a great Each Way for the former World Number One.
Aaron Baddeley 80/1 (BetVictor)
80/1 may seem like a long shot but Baddeley’s record here is why I would tip him heavily. In his previous three outings here he has finished in the top 10. He is also playing better than ever with four top 10 finishes this season. In a season that has produced many surprises...this could be another. Great for the Each Way flutter.
