I have a confession to make. I don’t use a Driver. In fact, the club has been missing from my bag for over three years now. For some reason or another I have never got to grips with club. I’ve tried, trust me I have. I’ve just never been able to have enough consistency and therefore...opted for my trusty 3 wood off the tee.
So why am I telling you all of this? Why am I admitting to not using it? Surely you must think I’m mad right? It’s like going into a gunfight with a knife each time I play. I hemorrhage shots to my playing partners and desperately play catch up thanks to my iron play. What I need, like many out there, is a Driver that not only gives me distance, forgiveness but something I can control.
I’ve heard it all before to. The latest driver that promises much but another I couldn’t handle. So when I heard the latest claims made about the Cobra King F6 it was too much of a good opportunity to take a test.
At the Media day of the Golf show by American Golf I heard the presentation, delivered in amazing style, by Jose Miraflor. Jose ensured that this was not of those boring presentations. He actually made me understand the science by comparing other Drivers to choosing a potential spouse. From the fun ones to the mature and experienced Cougar...all drivers fell into a category.
The Cobra King F6 he described as “The Unicorn”...the one you didn’t think existed, the needle in the haystack, the dream woman, the one. I was impressed but was it actually true?
I met up with Jose and told him about my dilemma...I don’t use a driver. If this really is the Unicorn...then I would be the person to prove his claims right. Needless to say, he happily took up the challenge. It was as this point that I wanted to warn everyone to get down...move away from the range because this really could go anywhere.
We tried the new King F6+ to start with. First hit...straight. “And this is the guy that doesn’t use a Driver!” said Jose. “Honestly Jose, not used one for three years now.” I replied defensively. Let’s take another and prove it wasn’t a fluke...it wasn’t. Just offline according the computer averaging about 250 yards.
“Give the F6 a try, it might work better for you.” Better for me, I was already impressed.
A couple of adjustments from Jose and a quick lesson in rolling my wrists later and there it was. 269.6 yards off centre but in terms of distance and forgiveness it was by far the best Driver I have ever had the pleasure of using. It gave me something other Drivers had failed to do. I felt comfortable with it, I felt confident with it and most importantly, gave me yards. Impressed would be an understatement.
Ladies and Gentlemen...I have found my Unicorn.
