I quite literally stumbled upon VICE Golf. It was whilst on a golf course where I had hit another shot into the rough. As I desperately tried to find my ball I found one that said "VICE" on it. It wasn't mine, so I left it. But as I had never heard of them...I thought I'd check them out.
There is a good reason why I hadn't of them. It's not a company you can find in the shops. With premium golf products by TaylorMade and Titleist etc, dominating the market, VICE Golf decided on a different business model. Why pay extra for premium products just because they come in a shop (and many sources that increase the price you pay along the way) when you can have top notch products delivered to your door at a fraction of the cost?
Although VICE Golg specialise in making high quality golf balls (up there with Titleist they claim) and selling them cheaper, we at Golfhacker tried one of their other products to begin with.
Golf gloves may seem like a dull product to review but perhaps we don't think about it enough. We buy our glove, hope it fits, hope it grips the club and away you go. Golfhacker took VICE Golf's Pure Glove to the range. Surely we wouldn't notice difference would we?
The first thing to mention is the bag...yes a bag which you can keep your glove in. Now most gloves come in a plastic case that is often thrown away moments after. This easy zip bag is a novel idea to keep your glove dry and secure. I have a lot of gloves scattered around but already I wanted to keep this one in it's bad straight after using it. Physcological perhaps, but it made the glove feel special to me.
The glove itself fit perfectly. As someone who needs a small glove it can be difficult to find one that fits as well as this. Sometimes it's too tight, the fingers may be too long. I felt like Goldilocks...this one was just right.
It was also extremely comfortable. After trying so many gloves I can say that perhaps this is the most comfortable glove I have ever worn. There was no space between my fingers and the tips of the fingers on the glove. It fitted...well...like a glove. It felt soft to. Made from lamb leather (different) it's softness made me feel as if I could easily forget i was wearing a glove at all.
But all of this is all well and good. The key questions for us all is how well did it grip the club? After all, that is why we wear them. The answer is...exceptionally well. With lesser gloves the club can lose friction between the glove and club and twist on downswing. Not this time. Friction between club and glove was strong allowing for more accurate shots. Of the 50 balls hit using the glove there were only 2 stray shots...believe it or not but for Golfhacker, that was an improvement.
So the VICE pure glove...Well it's stylish, extremely comfortable, fits exceptionally well (for me at least), soft and with a strong grip that has actually allowed the club not to twist on downswing.
As VICE Golf focus on keeping the price down for the consumer, the more you order in bulk...the more you save. All orders do come with a £4.99 delivery charge. One glove costs £13.99, however if you order 3 or more they are priced at £10.99 per glove. Delivery was on time through FedEx where you can track your order as it leaves the warehouse from Germany.
Germany is well known for it's efficient, no none-sense nature. Now it has entered the world of Golf. Looks like Golfhacker has found it's new Golf glove to.
