It was the perfect Father’s Day for Brooke Henderson as her father and coach, Dave Henderson, watched his 19-year old daughter lift the Meijer LPGA Classic crown title.
The Canadian claimed her fourth career title following a two-shot victory over Lexi Thompson and Michelle Wie. For Henderson, it is her first title of the season after her explosive start to her professional career last year. This season could be described as “the difficult second album” following only one top five finish in 2017.
“It’s kind of been a little bit tougher season for me,” Henderson said. “I haven’t got the results that I’ve been really looking for. But this week I played really well and things kind of started to turn around for me. So to get my fourth win is super exciting and I’m just excited for the rest of the summer now.”
The rest of the summer includes her defence of the Women’s PGA Championship. As the Major season enters full swing, Henderson has found her form at the right time.
The victory was made even sweeter as her father, Dave Henderson, is also her Swing coach.
“This morning (my Dad) said, ‘Do it for me,’ so this is definitely for him,” said Henderson of her father. “He's my coach, my best friend and a great father, so thank you, Dad!”
