Decisions, decisions. That is what faces Juli Inkster as she prepares to announce the USA team that will aim to defend the Solheim Cup. With two picks in her hands, the USA captain has admitted that knows she has a difficult decision to make.
Inkster the Golf Channel about her dilemma by saying: “Nelly Korda, she is a rookie. Ally McDonald. She is a rookie. Along with Angel, those are three really good players. I have to say I’m in a good position as far as a quality of play that I have to pick from. I’m in a really bad position of how many quality golfers that I’m going to tell that aren’t going to make the team.”
It’s not a bad problem to have. The current crop of American golfing talent is strong indeed. The only real question is whether Inkster prefers youth over experience? Either way, Inkster is ruling nothing out.
For players like Paula Creamer, the door is still open according to Inkster. She said that: “She is in the mix, but I have 10 other girls that I have to get their opinion on also, But Paula is playing well. The thing is with Paula, I know what I get. With Morgan Pressel, I know what I get. You look at Austin, Angel and Mo Martin, they have never played on a Solheim Cup. I don’t really know what I get. But I know I get great players. I have to field the team with not only quality golfers, but also people that get along with their teammates. I want camaraderie. I want fun. I want people that want to be there and that want to play for the red, white and blue.”
With only one day to go until the official announcement, Juli Inkster will have plenty to think about.
