Former Premier League rivals reunited as football legends Robbie Fowler and Andrew Cole star at this year’s Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship
Two of the Premier League’s greatest ever goal scorers have been confirmed for the 2017 edition of the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship. Robbie Fowler and Andrew Cole are making their debuts at the Championship and this year’s line-up includes a whole host of amateur and professional golfers as well as a range of celebrities from the world of sport and entertainment. Nailcote Hall in Warwickshire once again plays host to the event which this year celebrates its 84th anniversary.
Tackling the Cromwell Course for the first time, Robbie and Andrew will be joined by a stellar celebrity cast including former England rugby captain and World Cup winner Mike Tindall MBE, Strictly Come Dancing judge Len Goodman, 1992 Formula 1 champion Nigel Mansell CBE, BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker & Naga Muchetty and Irish boyband stars Keith Duffy and Brian McFadden.
Robbie Fowler is a Liverpool legend who is regarded as one of the club’s greatest ever players. A prolific goal scorer the former England international scored 163 times in the Premier League, the sixth highest in history. He also played a key role in the clubs 2001 treble winning season where the club won the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup.
Fowler said: “I’m really looking forward to coming to Nailcote Hall and competing in the Championship.”
Like Fowler, Cole is also considered one of the Premier League’s greatest strikers. Best known for his spell at Manchester United, Andrew is the third highest scorer in the Premier League era with a total of 187 goals. His time at the club also coincided with the team’s iconic 1999 treble winning season.
The event is also hosted by a British golfing icon in the form of Tony Jacklin CBE. The former Ryder Cup captain and 1969 Open winner is pleased that Fowler and Cole have been added to this year’s line-up. He said “It’s great to have two former Premier League stars on board for this year’s Championship. Both Robbie and Andrew are sporting heroes to their respective teams and I’m looking forward to seeing them both in action in August.”
Organising the event once again, are leading brand agency Champions (UK) plc. Matthew Hayes, Managing Director at the agency said “I’m delighted to welcome Robbie Fowler and Andrew Cole to the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship for the first time.
